Writing Braille With Chocolate is a born accessible chapbook of essays, short stories, and poems by youth in the Braille Challenge Writing Workshops. The chapbook also includes introductory materials by faculty revealing the project design and learning outcomes. The project catalyzed a national teen literary community to cultivate the next generation of young authors who are blind or visually impaired. This chapbook celebrates youth voices while reminding us of the joy and creativity we can find in accessible literature and libraries.

What’s Here & What’s Coming

Currently, the audiobook and ebook are available to the public through Biblioboard. In the near future, readers will be able to download accessible book files directly from a Braille Institute of America project page on their website. (I’ll share the url when it is live!) Once the government shutdown is over, NLS patrons will also be able to experience the chapbook on BARD as a talking book or in digital braille.

Writing Braille With Chocolate

Now on Biblioboard

Writing Braille With Chocolate is now available in audiobook and ebook on Biblioboard. BiblioBoard is a national digital library platform that helps libraries share curated digital with their patrons. While Biblioboard values accessibility, it is not lead by blind library professionals or designed particularly for braille readers. Our team wants to share that you can find most of the basic buttons functioning at the top of the page. For anyone wishing for an accessible file to enjoy with your screen readers, message me directly and I’ll send it along. Before you know it, our fully accessible book assets will be hosted on the BIA website for free downloads in the near future.
